Senior Spotlight: Samora Moody, Greer

Greer senior guard Samora Moody was honored Tuesday night for scoring 1,000 career points. She put up a career-high 45 points on her big night, as well, leading Greer to a dominant win over Pickens. Greer Sports Star caught up with Moody to talk about her impressive performance, her Greer career, and her plans for the future.

Greer Sports Star (GSS): You recently were honored for scoring 1,000 career points. How special of a moment was that for you?

Samora Moody (SM): It was special. I started playing varsity my freshman year, and it was kind of hard to adapt to that. I was looking up to a lot of the older girls on the team. So, throughout my journey and throughout the years, to be able to score 1,000 points is amazing. I’m really proud of the accomplishment.

GSS: How special is the Greer community and what does this city mean to you?

SM: Greer means everything to me. Staying down here basically my whole life from elementary school to middle school and now high school, I’ve watched everybody support me through everything. Greer fans love their teams and their athletes, so it's really fun to play in front of this community because they always show up.

GSS: When did you first develop a love for basketball?

SM: I’d say it was in fourth grade when I first started playing. I played for my church team at Fairview Baptist Church. In my first game, I went a little crazy, and the people in the stands were like ‘Oh, this girl can play!’ My shots and moves were really good for a fourth-grader.

GSS: What is your favorite performance from your time at Greer?

SM: I would say against Seneca this year. Even though we didn’t come out with the win, I played with a lot of IQ and stayed in control the whole game.

GSS: You scored a career-high 45 points Tuesday night against Pickens on the same night you were honored for scoring 1,000 career points. Talk about how you managed that incredible performance.

SM: I knew it was a special night for me, so I just calmed myself down and told myself I wanted to leave it all out there on the court. My shots were falling and I was feeling it.

GSS: What are your plans after graduating from Greer?

SM: I want to go to college and play basketball somewhere. It can be a D2 school or anywhere and I will be very happy, it doesn’t matter. Wherever God takes me, I’ll be blessed to finish my basketball career there. And then I want to study nursing.

GSS: It’s well-known that you and [Greer boys basketball star] Amare Anderson are cousins. How close are the two of y’all, and how much do you bond over basketball?

SM: Me and Amare are very close. We've been playing basketball together for a long time. We started playing together in elementary school when we were both at Upward. Watching each other grow up, even though we're the same age, has been really amazing. It’s great to see how much we’ve accomplished throughout our years.

GSS: Go-to pregame music?

SM: You can’t go wrong with Glo [Glorilla]. I’d say Glo and Rod Wave.

GSS: Dream vacation spot?

SM: I really want to go to Cancun, actually. I’m hoping to get to go there for my birthday this year.

GSS: What do you hope your legacy is here at Greer?

SM: Aside from basketball, I hope people remember me as that girl who always had a smile on her face, the girl who always asked people how they were doing and was friendly to everyone she met.
